This release includes the final chapter on building graphical user interfaces with JRuby and Swing. We’ve updated the Rails and database chapters to the final release of Rails 3. Finally, we’ve updated some of the examples in the database chapter to require fewer dependencies.
The Rails chapter is now up to date with the upcoming Rails 3 release. We’ve also added two new appendices: one on JRuby’s many command line options, and one on system administration (including a quick section on JMX). To lead off the book, we have wonderful forewords from Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto and Bruce Tate. Thanks, guys!
For this release, we’ve added a new chapter on the JRuby compiler. We’ve also beefed up the installation section with information on Windows and Mac installers, the Ruby Version Manager (RVM), and a couple of integrated development environments (IDEs).
The ActiveRecord section of the database chapter is now up to date with Rails 3. The Beyond Unit Tests chapter has a new section on the Webrat web testing tool.
This release includes a new chapter on Building Software for Deployment.
